Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus released details of their next WEC (World Endurance Championship) and LE MANS program, and designated Podium Advanced Technologies to develop, engineer and build the new SCG007 model.
The following are excerpts from the press release issued a few days ago by Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus:
When the ACO and the FIA published regulations to establish a new top class of endurance racing, SCG saw a magical opportunity. We could build a beautiful sports car to race in the top class of the WEC and at Le Mans.
The sleek and highly competitive Hypercars would usher in a new era in motorsports, where small manufacturers like SCG would be able to fight the big guys for an overall win on La Sarthe circuit.
We have brought together a world class team to rise to this challenge who are top veterans of F1 and LMP1 racing. We started with a blank sheet of paper and our design team lead by Michael Young and Jim Glickenhaus created the design.
Given the track record of successes achieved together over the last decade, with eight seasons of 24 hour racing, eight 24 Hour finishes including five First in Class, one Second in Class, and one Third in Class, it is no surprise that SCG decided to partner with Podium Advanced Technologies in this adventure, entrusting them with the task of designing the new car.
SCG and Podium have brought together internal resources and world-class partners. The engineering process is well underway, with preliminary wind tunnel analysis complete and an extensive wind tunnel testing campaign starting this month. We plan on completing the engineering by June, assembling the subsystems in July, building the car in August, and by this September the Glickenhaus 007 will hit the track for her first shakedown.
There are four confirmed manufacturers enrolled for the new big challenge in motorsport: Toyota, Aston Martin, ByKolles, and Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus and we look forward to competing against some of the strongest teams in the world.
Jim is looking forward to standing in the pits in Le Mans in the rain all through the night, enjoying the thrill and leading his new team to contend for the most prestigious win in motorsports.
