The 3D printing solutions help the offshore industry

Manufacturing components directly on the FPSO SKARV represents a paradigm shift in the approach to maintenance and offshore supply management

At the heart of digital transformation, the offshore industry marks a major step forward with the installation of the Roboze Plus Pro 3D printer onboard the FPSO SKARV, a floating platform specially designed for mining, processing, temporary storage and transfer of oil and gas extracted from the Skarv field in the northern part of Norway.

Offshore installations require parts being available at the time replacement works take place during planned and unplanned maintenance repairs. Extended shutdowns due to lack of spare parts result in very high costs, but storage space is limited and costly as well. Production of spare parts locally with ROBOZE's industrial 3D printing technology can therefore play an important role by keeping only raw material on stock and print the spare parts when needed.

Manufacturing components directly on the FPSO SKARV represents a paradigm shift in the approach to maintenance and offshore supply management. This innovation not only increases operational efficiency, but also reduces environmental impact through waste reduction and on-site production.
