Three Porsche 963 racing at Le Mans

The automaker's Motorsport team will field three cars at the 24 Hours circuit

The 101st edition of Le Mans will take place on 15 and 16 June and during that weekend Porsche Penske Motorsport can run with three Porsche 963, in order to increase the chances of winning the 101st edition.

Monday 19 February the Le Mans organiser Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) accepted the team’s application to make the third car run; it was decided, also, that the french Mathieu Jaminet will drive the No. 4 car, while the other drivers will be chosen at a later date.

Thomas Laudenbach, the Vice President Porsche Motorsports, said: “The 24 Hours of Le Mans will be a stunning smorgasbord of spectacular cars from a total of 14 manufacturers in the Hypercar and LMGT3 classes. We’re expecting a close and exciting battle at the front. So, it’s all the more important that we maximise the chances of our 20th overall victory by entering a third Porsche 963.”

The Director Factory Motorsport LMDh, Ursa Kuratle, claimed that their new goal is to be at the top of the podium during the next 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Jonathan Diuguid, the Managing Director of Porsche Penske Motorsport, adds: “Operationally, we will prepare and run the additional car in a very similar way to last year with support from our IMSA team. That’s the beauty of Porsche Penske Motorsport: we can use our global programme to tap into resources for staff and equipment for the biggest races of the year.”

On 9 June the pre-test will take place. On this occasion the race car, team and drivers will be aligned with the unique features of the 13.626-kilometer french Circuit.
